Correlated Fuel Research Program

Proficiency Testing Australia (PTA) has been conducting the Correlated Fuel Research (CFR) program for over 20 years.  It involves the testing of petrol samples and aviation gasoline samples (AVGAS).

Petrol samples are tested for their Research Octane Number (RON) and Motor Octane Number (MON).  Avgas samples are tested for a MON result only.  Petrol samples are tested every month and AVGAS samples every second month.

The program currently involves about 8 laboratories and samples for the program are provided by the participants on a rotational basis.  Sample suppliers are provided with detailed preparation instructions to maintain standardised sample production.  Homogeneity testing is conducted prior to sample distribution by measuring the density of selected samples according to ASTM D4052 or ASTM 1298.

As the program is industry based, results are not kept confidential.  Monthly summaries are issued to participants with all laboratory results included and a yearly summary report is issued around August each year.

The fee for participation is currently $3000 (+gst) for RON, MON and AVGAS and $2000 (+gst) for RON and MON only.
PTA payment terms and conditions are available on the PTA website.
